FF7 Barret custom figure by SomaKun FF7 Barret custom figure by SomaKun
Woot! finally finished Barret after pickin up this project again. Probably took about 2 weeks to finish. He was made using a Build-a-Figure Pitt as a base. I have some of the work in progress shots included. I used a clay mix of Sculpey, Sculpey III and Sculpey firm. The boiling method was used to "cook" the clay. Whatever is grey was freesculpted onto the figure. The barrels of the gatling gun was a straw I cut up. The gun can rotate. The dog tags were from some Sigma 6 figures. The face was free-sculpted with super sculpey. I used hot glue to make the torn sleeves on the jacket. I finished off with a paint job by hand and gave him a dark wash and free painted the tattoo.

The figure stands at 10-inches.

Again... simply amazing.

I need to learn to sculpt with the mixture of materials you use, it seems like you get a pretty good outcome from them.

Oh, and all of your talent probably helps too.

Thanks! ^_^. Either/or clay will be fine by itself. I just thought if i mix two good clays together, it would make the clay even better. But each clay can hold it's own

Awsome figure. The only complain I have is the mishaped backside of his head, or is that the way skulls look like?

O.O... dude you made a giant Barret! That's awesome, truly, the amount of sculpting and such that went in to him! But... what scale does he fit in with? Are you doin Icons-scale FF figs? He might just be... too.. big.

LoL thanks! haha i don't think he's scale to anything lol. he's kind of close to scale with the Cid i did with the icons scale Punisher but I don't have him anymore to compare =P. Sigh* i guess Barret is just going o roam this world scale-less and alone lol. I wanted to put a motor in his gun arm but i'll save a project like that for another time ^_^

Damn, that's one huge Barret. Btw, when you said you sculpted the face using sculpey, is there a head underneath that you sculpted over? or did you completely sculpt it and attached the head to the body? I'd imagine that'd be tough to do. Oh, and is Super Sculpey as adhesive as Apoxie Sculpt?
Thanks.

He's pretty beefy in weight lol. there is a head that I sculpted over. I had to carve some of the existing face off tough. Sculpey has been sticking on pretty good so far though I had to super glue some parts that didnt stick and it pretty much does the trick. I still would perfer apoxie over sculpey but if you're going to need a lot of clay to cover a lot of ground, sculpey will do the job or at least use it to cover the bulk of the work then use apoxie over it.

Ah. Well Apoxie is a tad difficult to sculpt with (I think so). Not to mention a bit pricey.

But of course, it sticks fairly well (at least when I first mix it). I was wondering if Sculpey sticks just as well.
Thanks for the responses.

Yeah apoxie is great but sculpting time is limited. Sculpey is great too just not as durable as apoxie but you have all the sculpting time in the world... well to an extent at least. either way, they're both good sculpting mediums and sculpey sticks just fine.

Wonderful job, love the torn sleeves. I'm unfamiliar with a boiling method for polymer clay, I'll have to look into that.

Thank you! ^_^ The boiling method is mostly used because the clay is sculpted over the action figure. It wouldn't be a good idea if i baked in in the oven otherwise unless it was 100% polymer clay, I would rather bake it in the oven. although, i think its faster to cook the clay by boiling it but don't take my word on that =P
